Master of Science in Media Forensics Degree

COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS

The following are computer requirements and recommendations for students entering the MSMF degree program. Students must have all required hardware and software prior to the start of classes.

Hardware

The minimum requirement for the program is a computer capable of remoting into our dedicated classroom workstations, where all intensive processing will occur:

  • A working computer capable of running Microsoft Remote Desktop software.
  • Reliable, high-speed internet connection. Wi-Fi is acceptable for accessing Canvas and live lectures. However, a faster, wired connection may be necessary when uploading or downloading large multimedia files for projects.

Optional Local Processing Recommendations. If you prefer to run the required software locally on your own machine rather than remoting into the classroom workstations, we recommend the following specifications:

  • Computer with Windows 11 24H2 or later.
    • This can include a Windows PC or a Mac running Windows in a VM via VMWare, Parallels, etc.
    • Suggested specifications:
      • Processor: Intel Core Ultra 5 or above or AMD Ryzen 5 or above processor.
      • RAM: 16GB minimum.
      • Storage: 1TB SSD or larger.
      • GPU: NVIDIA 3060 or above (useful for some intense calculation software)
