It is the intent of the College of Arts & Media (CAM) that students complete all courses for a satisfactory letter grade. Students may occasionally find themselves faced with special circumstances that interfere with registration and/or academic performance. Students seeking retroactive action should email camadvising@ucdenver.edu for retroactive action policies and procedures.
An Incomplete is reserved for verified, compelling, and extraordinary circumstances beyond the student’s control (e.g., medical emergencies, family crises) that prevent them from completing the course. Personal or academic difficulties alone are not sufficient grounds for an Incomplete. To be eligible, the student must have completed at least 75% of the coursework with a passing grade (as required for the course to count towards graduation). It is at the instructor’s discretion to determine whether the completed work meets this standard. Students who believe they are eligible to receive an incomplete for a course should connect with their faculty regarding the completion of the CAM Course Incomplete Agreement form.
Students interested in completing an Independent Study must have minimum 2.5 GPA and have at least a sophomore standing. A maximum of 6 hours of course work may be taken as an Independent Study in any semester. A maximum of 12 hours may be taken as Independent Study and be counted towards the bachelor's program. An Independent Study must be taken with tenured, tenure-track, or teaching track CAM faculty and may not be taken as a substitute for regularly scheduled and available courses. Students who believe they are eligible to completed an Independent Study should connect with their faculty regarding the completion of the CAM Independent Study form.
