Purpose
Joel Michael McCormick passed away in August 2003 due to complications from an operation to remove a brain tumor. At just 22 years old, Joel was an accomplished filmmaker, having established Pow Pow Productions with his family while still in high school. He produced Unknown, a ski film in 2000, and worked with a production company based in Vail, CO to produce free-skiing programs, Evolve and Signature Series, for SkiTV and Fox Sports. Friends and colleagues remembered Joel as the guy behind the scenes, trying to change skiingscheesyimage on network television. Joel was a full-time student at the University of Colorado Denver at the time of his passing. He is remembered fondly by family and friends, as well as his colleagues in the film and ski communities. The Joel Michael McCormick Memorial Scholarship honors Joels memory and supports students in the Film and Television Department at CU Denvers College of Arts & Media.
