CAM ADVISING

Welcome to College of Arts and Media Advising! The mission of CAM advising is to guide students throughout their academic journey; we aim to provide individualized services so students can make informed choices about their academic progress and ultimately graduate prepared to enter today’s workforce. On this page, you will find information about all things advising – how to make an appointment, who should make an appointment, and what to expect during your appointment.

Types of Appointments

In-Person/Virtual

Most students choose this type of appointment with one of our advisors. Each appointment is scheduled for thirty minutes (although many do not require the full time). Our advisors typically provide you with an advising sheet tailored to your degree and individual progress, including which requirements have already been met and what still needs to be completed.

Scheduling an appointment is appropriate for:

  • Academic/Degree Progress Check
  • Academic Petitions or Appeals
  • Academic Probation & Suspension
  • Degree Audit Review
  • Graduations Check
  • Intra-University Transfer
  • SAP Academic Plans

E-Mail

This is not an actual appointment; just send your advisor an email.  These types of queries should be simple and easily conveyed in a few sentences.  Lengthier discussions or questions are best suited for a scheduled appointment.

Emailing your advisor is appropriate for questions about:

  • Academic deadlines
  • Campus resource offices
  • Credit overload requests
  • Processing changes of CAM minors
  • Schedule changes (i.e. withdrawing) for current term
  • Submitting completed academic petitions or appeals

Drop-In

The College of Arts & Media is offering limited in-person drop-in hours during the first week of classes.

Students may not use drop-in advising for more complex advising issues such as reviewing your full curriculum map or degree audit. For bigger issues, students will still need to schedule advising appointments through their student account or by contacting the CAM Advising Office.

Availability for drop-in advising is based on first come, first served. Please contact the CAM Advising Office if you have any questions.

Please note that this drop-in advising is intended to assist students with quick issues related to:

  • Registering for classes
  • Credit overload requests
  • Questions about holds on accounts
