Maria Buszek, CU Denver Art History faculty, has co-edited the prolific and acclaimed book A Companion to Feminist Art, published by Wiley-Blackwel. In March, she will travel to Cambridge University to speak of the contributions of Linda Sterling, who will be highlighted in Buszek's upcoming book, The Art of Noise.

Six years in the making, this anthology was co-edited by the esteemed British art historian Hilary Robinson and Buszek, and includes 30 newly-commissioned essays on "the state of feminist art" by scholars, critics, curators, and artists from across six continents.  The book is part of the Blackwell Companions to Art History series.

The book has been nominated for a PROSE award.

Buszek says “to have been invited to organize this anthology was itself an honor.” As editors, Buszek and Robinson, have been recognized as “a leading figure in the[ir] discipline,” and were tasked with commissioning scholars to produce all-new essays that represent an “authoritative and engaging survey of current scholarship, and lucid and provocative synopses of contemporary debates” on the subject.   

Since the release of the book in late 2019, Buszek has traveled to Frieze London for events organized by TRAMPS Gallery, founded by the world-renowned painter Peter Doig and gallerist Parinaz Mogadassi, for its exhibition of paintings by the 74-year-old feminist artist Caroline Coon, whose catalog Buszek authored. Coon has a five-decade career as a painter, activist, music journalist, and founder of the non-profit Release organization. 

Working at the intersection of feminism, punk, visual art, and design, Buszek has written internationally for catalogs and scholarly publications. Her next project, Art of Noise, is dedicated to the pioneering female artists who emerged from the music and art scene in the late 1970’s.

On March 14, Buszek will be traveling to Cambridge University of where she be speaking, on the  work of feminist artist Linda Sterling, whose contributions are highlighted in The Art of Noise and who is currently the subject of a retrospective at the Cambridge University 's Kettle's Yard space.

The visit is supported by the Paul Mellon Centre for the Study of British Art and--besides the participation of the artist herself– Buszek will be speaking alongside figures such as the legendary scholars of Surrealist art Dawn Ades and Alyce Mahon, and punk-era journalist and music historian Jon Savage.
