Getting Set Up for a Successful Semester
Jan 13, 2025Dear CAM Students,
We hope you are just as excited for the start of the spring semester as we are! This CAM advising email newsletter will provide you with essential information related to registration, academic advising, important university deadlines, campus resources, and a variety of other useful topics. Be sure to save these emails for reference! And don’t worry, we won’t send these out too frequently.
Preparing for the Semester
In order to set yourself up for success this semester, please make sure you have access to the following frequently used electronic tools:
- University Email
- UCD Access
- Duo Mobile Authentication (download the app for a quick login to UCD Access)
It’s also worth taking some time before the semester to figure out where your classes will take place. You can view the building and room number for your in-person classes in your schedule information on UCD access (see the image below). Then, use the interactive campus map to identify the location of each class. We recommend visiting campus before the start of the semester to locate all of your classes ahead of time, if possible.
In this image of a student schedule, each in-person course is listed with the building and room number immediately below the course number.
Upcoming Important Academic Dates
- Monday, January 20: Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday- No classes, campus closed.
- Tuesday, January 21: First day of Spring 2025 classes
- Sunday, January 26: Last day to waitlist a class using UCD Access
- Monday, January 27:
- Last day to drop a class without a $100 drop charge
- First day that instructor approval may be required to add some classes.
- All waitlists are eliminated on Jan. 27 (we’ll talk more about this below)
- February 5: Census date! This is the last day to:
- Add a class (instructor approval may be required for some classes)
- Drop a class with a tuition adjustment (any class dropped after 2/5 is considered a withdrawal and will show as a “W” on your transcript)
- Apply for Spring 2025 Graduation
A Note on Waitlists
If you are waitlisted for a course, this means the class section has reached its maximum student capacity and cannot currently accept more enrollments. However, if enrolled students drop the course, students from the waitlist are enrolled (in the order in which they were waitlisted). When you are on a course waitlist, you will have access to the Canvas shell for the course (if applicable) so that you may start participating in the coursework. If this is an in-person course, you should attend the first week of class just in case you get in. There are three possible outcomes when you are waitlisted:
- Enough students drop the course so that those on the waitlist can enroll.
- The instructor makes additional space to allow waitlisted students to enroll.
- If you do not get into the course from the waitlist by January 27th, you will be removed from the waitlist and therefore from the course on that day. In this case, if the class is necessary for your current degree path, you should consider different enrollment options. You can check for different sections of the same course or search for a different course altogether.
Academic Advising
CAM now has three full-time academic advisors! Hansen Millison and Laura Schlichting joined Karin Hunter-Byrd in CAM advising this past fall semester. Advising caseloads will be re-distributed between the three advisors early in the spring semester. For information on how to schedule an advising appointment, please visit https://artsandmedia.ucdenver.edu/current-students/about-academic-advising or email CAMadvising@ucdenver.edu.
