Photography in Florence: Visual Arts in Italy

With the winding medieval streets of Florence as a backdrop, students created images inspired by some of the most significant works in art history, while studying the relationship between artistic theories, historic works of art, and early photographic processes.

“I returned with a humble view of nature and concepts which I had taken for granted in a world saturated by technology. In our Renaissance Optics course, we learned about the dawning of the Renaissance as well as massive shifts in the way that people thought of and perceived the world. Theses concepts we are so ingrained with that we forget to think of them, but chewing on concepts like Linear Perspective and how far we have come from the thought process of those in the Middle Ages was truly illuminating.”–Emily Owens, Photography
