Music and dancing kicks off at 4pm with Voz de la Clave, CU Denver's jazz and salsa ensemble. The line-up includes 2mx2, Lolita, rising star Verena, socially-charged-Chicano-funk-group Los Mocochetes, and headliner Son Tres. Spoken word from Colorado Poet Laureate, Bobby LeFebre, will set the tone for an evening of exploring culture through celebration of an often-misrepresented day.
CU Denver's College of Arts & Media (CAM) worked closely with Owen Trujllo, songwriter and vocalist for 2mx2 and CAM recording arts alumni, to plan the May 5th event. Trujillo, a community leader who is passionate about sharing his experiences as Mexican immigrant, partnered with CAM leadership and Mexico City born CAM student Verena Fuentes (Verena), to plan an evening rich in culture and pride.
All proceeds from the $10 cover benefit NEWSED Community Development. NEWSED works to promote holistic and long-term solutions to the challenges that face disadvantaged communities. LYNX National Arts & Media Camp will also be onsite to share opportunities to support young creatives and their passion for art and music.
