CU Denver Experience Gallery Participates in Multi-National Cities Summit of the Americas With New Exhibition

In celebration of the upcoming Cities Summit of the Americas, CU Denver's Experience Gallery presents a new exhibition titled “Out of Many, More: Voices of the Americas,” featuring artists with ties to the cultures and people from North, Central, and South America. Exploring issues that face all of us today in the Western hemisphere, the artists in this exhibition delve into themes from the Cities Summit: Climate Resilience, Democratic Renewal, Women's Empowerment, and Uplifting Underserved Communities.
The exhibition was curated by students in Emmanuel Gallery Director Jeff Lambson’s Museum Studies class. The group selected works by both local and non-local artists. Visitors to the exhibition may recognize the work of artist Gregg Deal, whose exhibition Tutse Nakoekwu (Minor Threat) captivated visitors to CU Denver’s Emmanuel Gallery in January 2022. Other artists represented in the exhibition include Colombian artist Cami Galofre, and Diego Zavala and Anais Ornelas Ramirez, two COMEXUS: Becas Fulbright-García Robles scholars teaching film classes at CU Denver this year.
“We are thrilled to work with such an incredible group of artists who have cultural ties around North, Central, and South America, and also Colorado,” says Lambson. “Through their important work these artists are exploring ideas that impact all of us. Through their brushstrokes, photography, comic books, and video, they ask us to stop and think about what we’re doing and the impact it has on our communities and landscape,” he concludes.
Denver Was Chosen for the Inaugural Cities Summit of the Americas
Civic and cultural leaders from over 1,400 cities will gather in Denver April 26-28 for the inaugural Cities Summit of the Americas. The leaders will participate in stakeholder roundtables, public outreach activities, expert panels, and networking sessions as they learn from one another. Thanks to a handful of supporting events including “Out of Many, More: Voices of the Americas”, visitors attending the Summit will also be able to experience the art of our region.
K Contemporary Gallery, a short 10-minute walk from CU Denver Experience Gallery (located in the Denver Performing Arts Center complex), has also organized an exhibition in conjunction with the Cities Summit. “Taking Up Space” is open from April 25 - April 30, 2023. Additionally, “Pipelines”, an outdoor art installation presented by the Biennial of the Americas with artistic direction by Black Cube Nomadic Art Museum, will be on display starting April 25, 2023 in the newly renamed Plaza of the Americas in the heart of Downtown Denver.
The public is encouraged to visit all three of these exhibitions. An opening reception for “Out of Many, More: Voices of the Americas” is planned for Thursday, April 27th from 4-6pm and will feature a musical performance by four CU Denver Music & Entertainment Industry Studies students and alumni.
