In continued commitment to student and alumni success, the College of Arts & Media (CAM) at CU Denver is integrating Life Design into academic and career advising. Leading efforts to advance the student experience and future-forward career counseling is Amy Foss, CAM Academic and Career Advisor.

As an intentional thrust to advance a holistic, equitable access to designing a life’s purpose, Foss will work with students to integrate experiential learning and inclusive opportunities into their life’s toolbox. These efforts include internships, mentorships, and international study experience.

These measures come from a greater understanding of the need to prioritize a comprehensive student experience. CAM faculty and staff share this appreciation with CU Denver Chancellor Michelle Marks. In December, Marks led CAM students, faculty, and staff in discussion with Farouk Dey, Vice Provost for Integrative Learning and Life Design at Johns Hopkins University. The discussion explored facilitating students' individual vision for their life and for what they wish to accomplish. “All CAM students, regardless of background or socio-economic status should understand and employ principles of life design that couple with integrative learning, such as internships, semester abroad and shorter student abroad programs,” says Laurence Kaptain, CAM Dean. “Amy’s degrees from the University of Maryland, George Mason University and deep experience in guiding, coaching and advising students—make her highly qualified for this new branch of student support and elevate the CU Denver priorities that ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion.”
