Sarah Watson served as the Director of the Joseph S. Murphy Institute at CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) from 2023 to 2026. Prior to joining SLU in 2023, she served in a leadership position at the Hunter College Art Galleries (2012–2023) and was also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Art History. Watson’s research focuses on the politics of labor within the cultural sector and the role and responsibilities of cultural institutions. She is co-editor with Bridget R. Cooks of the publication "The Black Index" and her writing has appeared in the Brooklyn Rail, among several other outlets. Watson has recently been a visiting curator at the Whitney Independent Study Program, Syracuse University, and Triangle Residency Association. She has an MA in Urban Studies from CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, an MA in Art History from Hunter College, and a BFA in Art Photography from Syracuse University.
