  • Visual Arts (CAM)

Darija Medic is a tactical media artist, practice-based researcher and media designer. Her work addresses the barriers to equitable user experience design from a critical materialist and disability justice standpoint. Combining a range of media into low tech participatory installations, interventions and performances she creates collective processes for sensitizing, sometimes absurd, politically laden points behind the space where technical mediation and prosumer habituation meet. Supported by 20 awards and grants, her work has been performed and presented at 70 exhibitions and venues across the world, and she has given around 40 presentations and talks internationally.

Her practice based research, professional experience and teaching competencies center around media arts, user experience research and design, web design and development, critical theory, and behavioral design, centering accessibility, diversity, inclusion, and equity. She has collaboratively worked for over a decade with art collectives (such as kuda.org), makerspaces (such as Hacklab Belgrade), galleries (such as Gallery 12 HUB), digital policy organizations (such as DiploFoundation), large NGOs (such as National Democratic Institute) and intergovernmental organizations (such as the United Nations in Geneva). She is a guest lecturer at Singidunum University in Belgrade, Serbia and at the SHIFTA Creative Computing Master program of ELISAVA Barcelona School of Design and Engineering.
