Melissa Furness’ work is influenced by experiences of travel, including residencies around the world with: Jentel, Wyoming; Yaddo, New York; the Laznia Center of Contemporary Art, Poland; Shankill Castle, Ireland; Red Gate Gallery, Beijing; the Hungarian Multicultural Center near Budapest; and Kala Art Institute, Berkeley. Furness has received invitations to exhibit work at the 2016 Kochi-Muziris Biennial in Kerala, India through A.I.R. Gallery of New York, as well as a fellowship to participate in the 2015 Biennial of the Americans where she resided in Mexico City as an Art Ambassador. Furness is a former member of A.I.R. Gallery in Brooklyn and a current one of Pink Progression through which she exhibits works addressing gender issues, and she is part of the Artnauts Collective, who exhibit work in places of contention throughout the world. Through these experiences, the artist has exhibited in Berkeley, California at Vizivarosi and Keki Galleries and The Drawing Room HU in Budapest, and developed site specific projects in Mexico, Ireland, Italy and China. Furness’ work has been represented in the past by galleries in New York, Seattle, Palm Springs and Zurich leading up to the present with K Contemporary Art and Kiechel Fine Art galleries. Her work has been in exhibitions and international art fairs in Seoul, Zurich, Cologne, Los Angeles, and Aspen and has been featured in the magazines New American Paintings, Studio Visit, SeeAllThis, Klassik International, 3035280 Magazine, and others.
