Meet CU Denver Alum-in-Residence, Shameka McBoat
Shameka 'Meka' McBoat '06 received her Bachelor of Science Degree and is currently the owner and Lead Photographer of McBoat Photography.

Meka has served as a CU Denver Alumni Board Member and President of the CU Denver Alumni Scholarship Committee for two years. She was an alumni host at CU Denver's Success Looks Like Me event, where she lent a friendly ear and gave helpful advice to exceptionally talented students. Meka is also a loyal donor to CU Denver's Loving Lynx Emergency Fund, which provides financial support to students needing immediate financial assistance.
Meka's company McBoat Photography is a Denver-Based Luxury Wedding, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Event &Portrait Photography Company that has photographed clients worldwide since 2005. McBoat Photography is an LGBTQIA+ friendly company that focuses on providing all clients with stunning images taken by photographers who CARE & LISTEN to their client's needs and desires and provide them with a customized experience like they've never had before. Meka realizes the importance of community and caring for each other, so her company offers a 10% Military Discount and a 20% Non-Profit Discount.
McBoat Photography was awarded The Knot's 'Best of Weddings 2022' Award, presented to the top industry professionals in the country, and the 'Most Client-Focused Wedding Photographer 2022 Award in LUXlife Magazine's Global Wedding Awards, 2022 category. Meka was also recently accepted into the Inner City Capital Connections Program {ICCC), which helps assist small business owners to increase their capacity for sustained growth.

The Alumni-in-Residence program connects CU Denver students with accomplished CU Denver Alumni for one-on-one or small group career and industry advice. In an office hours model, students can sign up for a 30-minute in-person meeting at a working space within LynxConnect - to ask specific career questions or to solicit general advice from someone who has walked in their shoes.
