CU Denver sits among multiple acclaimed colleges as an affordable option with accessible rates of admission.
MovieMaker highlights Film & Television’s balanced, portfolio building curriculum while noting the camaraderie students experience when working on each other’s films. They also note the soon to be offered Acting for the Screen BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), which “requires many of the same production classes filmmakers take.”
Cohorts Create Cinema
“Since 2004, our numbers grew about 40%, and that is largely due to the fact that we adopted a cohort curriculum” says department chair David Liban. Film and Television prides itself on the collaborative processes that students go through as they work with undergrads of different levels across the program. “Filmmaking is ALL about collaboration.” David confirms. There’s an applicable emphasis for everyone to gain experience in their area of interest while joining forces with their peers and supporting one another’s productions. “Our program is designed to give students experience in as many of these areas as possible so they can figure out what suits them best and to better understand what goes on in making a movie.” Challenges and changes often happen both on set and in the industry, but the curriculum ensures students gain diverse knowledge for greater career mobility.
The reasonable size of both classes and the overall program allow undergrads to create meaningful connections with upper and lower-level peers while receiving balanced attention from faculty. This learning approach has produced noteworthy alumni with achievements spanning from the independent film scene in Colorado to red carpets in Hollywood. Whether you plan to become a cinematographer, post-production editor, or television production assistant, MovieMaker knows you can meet your moment at CU Denver.
