Sur started her career as a Copywriter and Senior Copywriter with international agencies like Saatchi and Saatchi and McCann Erickson, India. While writing 60 second spots, she realized her true passion lied in film and cinema. She came to the US in 2000 to pursue her Master’s degree in Film and Video Production. She received the Harold Mendelsohn Graduate student award at the University of Denver. Following her graduation, she spent a few years in the world of reality television, while continuing with her magazine publications. Her writing credits include Discovery Channel's Surprise by Design, HGTV's Offbeat America and Dream House, Food Network's Rachael Ray's Tasty Travels, and Extreme Cuisine, Denver's 5280 magazine, LA's Valley Scene Magazine, India's Film India Global, and Good Housekeeping magazine. Writing for reality television fueled her continuing interest in telling stories through documentary films. Sur has written, directed and produced four feature length documentaries that have been distributed globally, including NDTV, India and the Mumbai International Film Festival. As a screenwriter, she found her niche in narrating cross-cultural stories that channel her immigrant experience. Her recent feature screenplay, The Rock Within, was a second rounder at the Sundance Feature writing lab, 2018 and an official selection at the Stowe Story Lab, 2018. Sur leads Bollywood Connections, a study abroad program in Mumbai, India.
